Anna Bederke was born in Hamburg, where she later studied Visual Communication with a focus on directing and screenwriting at the HfbK in the class of Wim Wenders. She began her career as both an actress and filmmaker, directing several short films before establishing herself as a screen presence. Her earlier credits include Fatih Akin’s Soul Kitchen and Matthias Schweighöfer’s Schlußmacher. Also she has worked with director Matthias Glasner across several projects.

Since then, Anna Bederke has worked extensively across German film and television, with credits including Moritz Bleibtreu’s Cortex, the Amazon series Beat and the ARD series Asbest. She also appeared in Pat Collins’s Irish feature That They May Face the Rising Sun and Mathias Glasner’s Sterben which won a Silver Bear at the Berlinale 2024.

Anna’s most recent work includes Fatih Akin’s feature film Geister (2025) and the Irish-German co-production Faraway Home.
