Falko Lachmund, born in Berlin in 1984, began his career working as a lighting technician on film, television and commercial productions before studying Cinematography at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. While still a student, he attracted widespread attention with Barbara Ott’s short film Sunny, which received the Deutscher Kurzfilmpreis, the First Steps Award and the Deutscher Kamerapreis in 2013 and 2014 – an exceptional start to his career.
Since then, Falko has become a trusted creative partner for a generation of emerging filmmakers, shaping award-winning feature films, series and festival favourites with a distinct visual sensitivity. His feature Back for Good (Mia Spengler) opened the Berlinale Perspektive section in 2017 and won Best Feature Film at Filmfest Biberach, while Im Feuer – Zwei Schwestern (Daphne Charizani) premiered at the Berlinale and later received the Grimme-Preis. His work on Herren (Dirk Kummer), Warten auf’n Bus and Druck also received major industry recognition, including Grimme and Deutscher Fernsehpreis nominations.
Alongside acclaimed festival films such as Kids Run, Die Saat and MissingLink*, Falko has established himself as a sought-after cinematographer for high-end television and streaming productions. Recent credits include Barbara Ott’s Netflix film Für Jojo, the ZDFneo series Another Monday, Polizeiruf 110 – Ronny, and Clara Zoë My-Linh von Arnim’s celebrated ARD series Marzahn Mon Amour.
Based in Berlin, Falko continues to work across cinema and television, combining an intuitive, character-driven visual approach with a strong affinity for ensemble storytelling.
