The director Clara Zoë My-Linh von Arnim was born in Munich in 1994. The influences of her parents’ very different families – on the one hand the German family, on the other her Vietnamese family, who fled to Europe as boat people – are often visible in Clara’s film work. From an early age, she was very concerned with fantasy worlds and escaping into other realities. After leaving home at the age of sixteen, Clara worked alongside school in the laboratory of an orthodontist’s practice, in the catering trade. and in a camp for children with trisomy 21 as a caregiver. After graduating from high school in 2013, Clara started working for television productions as a trainee director and camera trainee. She later worked for numerous international cinema and television productions in the assistant director’s department, such as Snowden (directed by Oliver Stone) and Queen ́s Gambit (directed by Scott Frank). Clara has been a student at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB) since 2015. In 2018, she was accepted as a scholarship holder in the Elite Funding of the German People. In her films, Clara often deals with the theme of transformation in growing up and likes to describe her film style as “magic realism”. Her short films have screened at numerous national and international festivals. Her short film In den Binsen was nominated for the German Short Film Award in 2020. In 2021 she directed four episodes of the children’s series ECHT, and contributed as a writer to the 8th season youth series DRUCK. In 2022 she is part of the writing team and head director of the series “Feelings (AT)”.
