Sabine Panossian

Sabine Panossian is an Austrian cinematographer working across fiction and documentary film. Before studying Cinematography at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF, she studied Communication Studies, Theatre, Film and Media Studies, and Cultural Anthropology in Vienna and Siena. Her interdisciplinary background is reflected in films that combine a keen observational eye with a distinctive sense of atmosphere and character.

Her work has received numerous national and international awards and distinctions. While still a student, Where the Wood Ends won the Student Academy Award Silver Medal in 2016. Her graduation film Off Season (dir. Henning Beckhoff) earned the First Steps Michael Ballhaus Award for Best Cinematography in 2019, one of the most prestigious awards for emerging cinematographers in Germany. Further acclaimed projects include The Blunder of Love, which received the DOC Alliance Award in 2021, Fossil (dir. Henning Beckhoff), winner of the FIPRESCI Prize at Filmfest München in 2023, and Echo (dir. Mareike Wegener), for which she received a Grimme Award nomination in the category Fiction Special / Cinematography in 2025.

Alongside her feature film work, Sabine has photographed series including 30 Tage Lust, The Stardust Hotel and Wake Up. A Berlinale Talent in 2022, she is a member of the Austrian Association of Cinematographers (AAC), the German Film Academy (DFA), the European Film Academy (EFA), and serves on the board of Cinematographinnen – Women* Cinematographers Network.

Sabine is currently preparing two feature films scheduled for production in 2026. She is based in Cologne.
