Toks Körner was born in East Berlin to an East German student and a Nigerian doctor. He has a migration background, but his migration amounts solely to his move from the GDR to the West. Toks first studied acting in Essen and New York. This is where the foundation for his understanding of “storytelling” was laid. Toks found his way to writing through acting. Between 2011 and 2015, he studied screenwriting at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (dffb) and has been working as a screenwriter ever since. Today, his acting experience still forms an important basis for his work as an author and script consultant.

His debut film “Borga”, which he co-wrote with director and writer York-Fabian Raabe, received several national and international awards, including the Max Ophüls Award in four categories and the African Movie Academy Award for Best Screenplay.

Toks is a member of the German Film Academy, where he organises the “Brain Room”, an internal event for Academy members to talk about film material and ideas. Since 2021, he has been a jury member of the ‘Screenplay’ section of the First Steps Award.
