After winning a First Steps Award in 2011 for the short film PAPA, Umut Dağ’s first feature film KUMA premiered in 2012 as the opening film in the Panorama section at the Berlin Film Festival. His second feature film RISSE IM BETON (CRACKS IN CONCRETE) was shown two years later at the Berlin Film Festival in 2014. (Berlin Panorama Special). After shooting the German Crime Drama Tatort REBECCA and numerous television dramas including COP STORIES and LANDKRIMI – ENDABRECHNUNG for ORF, Umut directed the award-winning television film DAS DEUTSCHE KIND (THE GERMAN CHILD) for which he won much acclaim including a nomination for the Grimme Award in 2019 and the German Directing Award Metropolis. In 2018 Umut directed two more Tatorts (SONNENWENDE, and DAS MONSTER VON KASSEL). In 2019, making his international debut, Umut directed the 2nd and 3rd episode of the English language 3-parter VIENNA BLOOD based on the novels by Frank Tallis and starring Matthew Beard and Juergen Mauer. In 2020 VIENNA BLOOD won the International Romy Award.
