Sarah Claire Wray trained in Theatre Directing at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch in Berlin from 2017 to 2022, complemented by a class in serial writing and producing at the Filmuniversität Babelsberg. She works across theatre, television, radio, and film as a writer and director, and is one of the most versatile creative voices of her generation working in German-language storytelling.
Her theatre directing credits include productions at the Volksbühne Berlin and the Nationaltheater Mannheim, and she directed the 2026 production Stützliwösch Supertrans at the Schauspielhaus Zürich.
Her television writing career has gained rapid recognition. She wrote episodes of the ZDFneo series Fett und Fett (Trima Film, 2021), which received a Grimme-Preis nomination in 2023, and multiple episodes of Wir (Studio Zentral/ZDF, 2022). Her most significant work to date is as a writer on the ARD Degeto series Schwarze Früchte (Studio Zentral/Jünglinge Film, 2023), which had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2024 – a rare distinction for German television – and won the Blauer Panther TV & Streaming Award in 2025. Her writing for the ARD Degeto series Stabil (Rat Pack, 2024) and multiple projects currently in development mark her as an emerging television writer in Germany.
Sarah Claire Wray is based in Berlin and works fluently in German, English, and French.
