Nina Vukovic trained in Screenwriting at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg (2002–2005) and subsequently in Directing at the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (dffb) (2007–2014), supported by scholarships from the Markel-Stiftung and the Robert-Bosch-Stiftung programme. She began her career as a screenwriter, most notably co-writing the feature Nimmermeer (dir. Toke Hebbeln, 2005), for which she won the Student Oscar in 2007. Her ZDF feature Stunde des Bösen – Detour (2016), which she also wrote, received a nomination for the Förderpreis Neues Deutsches Kino at Filmfest München.
Her feature Am Ende der Worte (Klinkerfilm Hamburg, NDR, 2020) received a Grimme-Preis nomination in 2021. Her directing work then expanded significantly across major German television: she directed Tatort Köln – Schutzmaßnahmen (Bavaria Fiction/WDR, 2021) from a screenplay by Paul Salisbury, and the ZDF mini-series Der Schatten (Keshet Tresor Fiction, 2022), for which she received the Deutscher Fernsehpreis for Best Director in 2023. She directed episodes 3 and 6 of Season 2 of the Netflix series Kleo (Zeitsprung Pictures, 2023).
Her most recent work includes Tatort München – Zugzwang (Bavaria Fiction, 2024) and the ambitious ARD/BR/SRF/Servus TV eight-part series Ludwig II (Wiedemann & Berg, 2025). Nina is based in Berlin and also works as a screenwriter across multiple projects in development.
