Nathan Nill grew up in Reutlingen and, after graduating from high school, made his first documentary film about the search for his father, whom he had never met, in Italy. In 2006 he began studying Audiovisual Media with a focus on directing at Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin. During his studies, he directed several short films and documentaries.
In 2010, he began his Master’s degree in Directing at the Hamburg Media School. His award-winning graduation film Stufe Drei won the Max Ophüls Prize and screened at more than 60 national and international film festivals. Since 2013, Nathan Nill has worked as a director for film, television and advertising. In 2014, he co-founded the Hamburg-based production company Das Kind mit der goldenen Jacke Filmproduktion GmbH, where he continued to work as a producer alongside his directing career. He also teaches regularly, including at the Hamburg Media School.
In 2015, he directed the Grimme Award-nominated ZDF series Komm schon!, which also received the Studio Hamburg New Talent Award. As a producer, he was behind Esther Bialas’ feature debut Wo kein Schatten fällt and co-produced Eliza Petkova’s feature film Das blendende Licht. His directing work spans both television and streaming productions, including Big Dating, Another Monday and Ein Fall für Conti.
Alongside developing a feature film within Hamburg’s NEST development programme, Nathan is currently preparing the ZDF high-end series Heile Welt, scheduled for release in 2027. He is based in Hamburg.
