Toks first studied acting in Essen and New York and later found his way to writing through acting. Between 2011 and 2015, he studied screenwriting at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (dffb) and has been working as a screenwriter ever since.

His debut feature Borga (Chromosom Film, dir. York Fabian Raabe, 2019), which he co-wrote with the director, won four awards at the Max Ophüls Preis as well as the African Movie Academy Award for Best Screenplay.

His further credits include Es ist zu deinem Besten (Koryphäenfilm, dir. Marc Rothemund, 2020), co-written with Felix Starck and Hans Rath, the ZDF Druck Season 3 (Bantry Bay, 2019, 2 episodes), the Disney+ series Sam – Ein Sachse (Big Windows/UFA, 2021, co-written witz Soleen Yusef). He is currently co-writing a feature film with Junafilm, which was funded by Moin Filmförderung and is developing a streamer-series together with Ziegler Film.

Toks is a member of the German Film Academy, where he organises the “Brain Room”, an internal event for Academy members to talk about film material and ideas and is based in Berlin.
