Clara Zoë My-Linh von Arnim is a writer and director based in Berlin. Born in Munich in 1994 to a German and Vietnamese family, themes of identity, belonging and transformation frequently find their way into her work. After early experiences in film and television production, she studied Directing at the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (dffb), where she developed a distinctive body of work shaped by elements of magical realism and coming-of-age storytelling.
Her short films screened at numerous national and international festivals, including In den Binsen, which was nominated for the Deutscher Kurzfilmpreis in 2020. Alongside her directing work, Clara also writes for film and television, contributing to the acclaimed youth series Druck and creating the ZDFneo series Feelings, for which she served as both writer and lead director.
Her breakthrough came with the award-winning series Die Zweiflers, which she co-directed with Anja Marquardt. The series won the Canneseries Award for Best Series in 2024 and earned Clara the Grimme-Preis and the DAfFNE Award for Best Direction in 2025. She followed this success with Marzahn Mon Amour, the adaptation of Katja Oskamp’s celebrated novel, which became one of the most acclaimed German series of its year and further established Clara as a filmmaker with a remarkable sensitivity for character, tone and ensemble storytelling.
Alongside her work for television, Clara develops original projects for both cinema and high-end series. She recently completed production on Mozart Mozart and is currently in post-production on her feature film debut Herkunft, based on Saša Stanišić’s bestselling novel and scheduled for theatrical release in 2027.
