Tim Kuhn, born in Munich in 1980, is a multi-award-winning cinematographer working across feature films, high-end television and international co-productions. Before turning to filmmaking, he studied Latin American history and spent several years working as a cameraman in Asia, South America and the Middle East. In 2008, he began studying Visual Design and Cinematography at the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF München), where he developed the visual approach that continues to define his work today.

Since then, Tim has built a career that moves seamlessly between cinema and television. His credits include the acclaimed BR series Hindafing, the documentary Tackling Life (Audience Award at DOK.fest Munich and First Steps Award) and the ZDFneo series Breaking Even, for which he received the Deutscher Kamerapreis in 2021. He received the award again in 2023 for his cinematography on Amazon Prime’s Luden – Kings of the Reeperbahn, which also earned him the Deutscher Fernsehpreis for Best Cinematography.

Alongside his television work, Tim has established himself internationally through feature films such as Scandar Copti’s Happy Holidays, which screened at major international festivals including Venice, Marrakech, Thessaloniki and Hamburg, receiving multiple awards along the way. His recent cinema work also includes 22 Bahnen by Mia Maariel Meyer, one of the most successful German films of 2025, which attracted more than 735,000 cinema admissions and demonstrated Tim’s ability to combine visual precision with emotionally resonant, audience-driven storytelling.

More recently, his work on the Apple TV+ series KRANK Berlin brought him another Deutscher Fernsehpreis for Best Cinematography, while the series itself was awarded Best Drama Series in 2025. Together with director Katrin Gebbe, he is currently developing a new historical series project.
