Julian Krubasik, born in Munich in 1984, is a cinematographer for feature films, documentaries and television. After studying film at the Edinburgh College of Art, he went on to study cinematography at the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF München) from 2010 to 2017. Even while still a student, his work attracted international attention, earning nominations at the Camerimage Festival for Agonie (2016) and for the First Steps Michael Ballhaus Award for Luft (2017).

Since then, Julian has established himself as one of the most distinctive cinematographers of his generation, working across independent cinema, documentaries and prestige television. His credits include Our Wildest Dreams (Best Cinematography, Rhode Island International Film Festival 2017), Eva Trobisch’s Alles ist Gut (Locarno 2018, Best First Feature), Mariko Minoguchi’s Mein Ende. Dein Anfang, Hans-Christian Schmid’s Wir sind dann wohl die Angehörigen, Isa Willinger’s Plastic Fantastic, Aylin Tezel’s Falling into Place and Nicolas Steiner’s Netflix documentary series Dig Deeper, which received the Deutscher Kamerapreis in 2022.

His television work has been equally acclaimed, including a Grimme Award nomination for Polizeiruf 110: Der Ort, von dem die Wolken kommen and the Bernd Burgemeister Television Award for Wir haben einen Deal. He photographed the series Love Sucks, which received the Bernd Burgemeister Television Award for Best Series in 2024, and Verlangen for WDR/ARD, directed by Bettina Oberli.

Julian lives in Munich and is a member of the German Society of Cinematographers (BVK), the German Film Academy and the European Film Academy.
