Carmen Treichl is a Berlin- and Tyrol-based cinematographer whose work is distinguished by its strong visual atmosphere, precise dramaturgy and expressive use of light. Whether working in genre storytelling, drama or documentary, she approaches each project with the ambition of developing a distinct visual language that serves the emotional core of the story.

After completing degrees in Graphic Design and Multi Media Art, Carmen studied Cinematography at the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (dffb). Her work was recognised early through screenings at major international festivals, including the Berlinale, South by Southwest and New Directors/New Films.

Since then, Carmen has worked across cinema and television, building a filmography that combines auteur-driven projects with ambitious genre productions. Her feature Stille Post – Whispers of War (dir. Florian Hoffmann) received numerous international accolades, while projects such as Strafe – Der Dorn and Tod den Lebenden established her as a sought-after cinematographer for visually ambitious television drama.

A particularly significant creative partnership has developed with Austrian director Andreas Prochaska. Together they have realised Love Sucks, for which Carmen received the Deutscher Kamerapreis for Best Cinematography in Fiction in 2025, as well as the feature films Welcome Home Baby, which opened the Berlinale Panorama in 2025, and Spuren des Bösen – Sühne.

Carmen is currently shooting two further films with Andreas Prochaska before reuniting with director Lars Kraume for an upcoming series project.
