“I was born in Trofarello, a little village close to Turin/Italy. If I have to think of the moment when it became clear to me that I wanted to be an actor, I remember the first time that I went to the theatre. I was about four years old, too young to follow the plot, and I spent the whole show wondering where the actors went when they were leaving the stage. I had no idea about what was behind the door they used to walk in and out of the scene. I was dying with curiosity. I continued going to the theatre over the years, always trying to imagine what was behind the set. Years later, as a student, I went to the Teatro Regio in Turin in order to earn some money working as an extra in the operas. The man at the artists entrance indicated me how to get to the rehearsal, but I lost my way in that enormous theatre. Opening a big door I found myself standing on the stage, looking at the back of the set, seeing all those lights, ropes, steps, wooden beams… all those things that are usually hidden from the eyes of the audience left me standing open-mouthed. Finally I knew what was behind it all. But I’m still curious.”
