Thomas Sieben, born in Cologne in 1976, began his studies of political science in Münster (1997-98), but then went to the USA to study film and photography at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. After his return to Germany he presents his first short film “Hit and Run” (2002). His long-film debut, DISTANCE with Ken Duken as an inconspicuous serial killer, premiered at the Berlinale 2009 in the section Perspektive Deutsches Kino Premiere. DISTANCE receives numerous invitations to international film festivals and receives several awards. His second feature film THE DAM was selected for competition of the prestigious Max Ophüls Prize Festival 2013 and was released in German cinemas in January 2014. THE DAM received several film prizes and was presented again at numerous film festivals in Germany.
Thomas Sieben is currently developing LOVE SLAM for Senator Film as well as the romantic comedy JUNGBRUNNEN for SONY PICTURES. In 2015 he wrote the screenplay for the teen comedy FIXI commissioned by SamFilm, which has been released by Constantin Verleih in 2016. In 2017 he will direct his third feature KIDNAPPING STELLA produced by Henning Ferber Filmproduction. In addition to his work as a director and writer, Thomas Sieben works as a designer for computer games.
