Atris (Samuel Schneider) is tired of being the minion of underground boss El Keitar (Kida Khodr Ramadan). Seeking a new life, Atris tries, together with his friend Frank (Jannis Niewöhner), to pull through a venturous plan of counterfeiting money. But none of them are able to cope with the situation: gangsters, drugs, guns and cars are taking over and circumstances get out of control. At least there’s fearless thief Marie (Ella Rumpf) who stands by them with her ruthlessness.

After directing four „Bibi & Tina“-movies, »ASPHALTGORILLAS« shows Detlev Buck’s  dedication to a severe field study. The screenplay has been written together with Cüneyt Kaya and Constantin Lieb and is based on the short story of author Ferdinand von Schirach.

A STAR CAST FOR DETLEV BUCK
The movie doesn’t only have its star director, but also an illustrious range of players: with Samuel Schneider, who acted as the lead in Caroline Link’s „Exit Marrakech“ 2013, Jannis Niewöhner, being the most famous and most engaged emerging German actors (amongst others „Rubinrot“, „4 Könige“ und „Ostwind – Aufbruch nach Ora“), Ella Rumpf, whose attention arose 2017 after playing in coming-of-age-drama „Tiger Girl“, as well as in the horror-drama  „Raw“ and with Kida Khodr, who is a well-known face of German TV and cinema productions for several years already and lately made new sensation by playing in the „4 Blocks“ drama series.
They’re joined by model Stefanie Giesinger, rapper SSIO and poetry-slammer/singer Julia Engelmann.

„Asphaltgorillas“ will be released in German cinemas on August 30th.
